A couple of years ago something of a storm blew up on social media. A blog post about a topic close to my heart set the internet chattering. Its premise, and the idea that got everyone talking, was that some people report that they have no inner speech: the silent conversation in the head that many of us report accompanying much of our waking lives.
Given that my last book, The Voices Within, was about the values and benefits of this kind of self-talk (along with some of its pitfalls), I was thrilled to be asked to present a radio documentary about people who do not have this experience. It is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Monday 1 August, and will be available thereafter via the iPlayer. You can listen to the programme here.
